Welcome to my site. I am a 21 year old experienced web developer and designer, graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology as an Honors student. I've completed my bachelor of science in the New Media Interactive Development Program (formerly known as Information Technology - New Media) with a strong and dedicated focus in development for the web. Recently, I finished a senior capstone team project called SociaLaser. Feel free to check out the project or browse any of my other works by clicking the tabs above.
For the web, I have had a great amount of experience developing and coding sites with HTML, CSS, XML, PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, jQuery, and SVG. My development in Flash applications mainly deal with using ActionScript 3.0, XML, and external libraries. One of my primary focuses in both development areas include usability design and functionality (it's great if something looks pretty, but without the right functionality everything can fall apart). Check out some of my development productions above by clicking on the "Web" or "Flash" images.
As a New Media interactive developer and designer, I have had a lot of experience coming up with creative design content as well as working with Graphic User Interfaces (GUI). On the graphical side, I have worked fluently with bitmap and vector designs-always paying careful attention to basic Gestalt principles such as figure-ground, proximity, and closure. My 3D modeling projects were all created and rendered with close attention to small specifics and detail. In terms of usability for the end user, interface design is something I take into high consideration behind my works. The design comps in the User Interface section above were all carefully constructed with primitive wireframes and underwent multiple user tests. Check out some of my works above by clicking on any of the three images.
Squash and Stretch. Ease-in, ease out. Timing. Secondary actions. These are just some of the key animation principles that I've mastered and strive to incorporate in all of my movies. My 2D works are generated from a variety of sources- whether it be a motion tween in Flash, a compilation of stop motion images in Quicktime, or even a tedious frame-by-frame rotoscoping in Photoshop. For my 3D works, I've focused on both modeling and animation using Autodesk Maya (although I've heard good things about Google Sketchup). Check out my (hopefully entertaining) animations by clicking on the 2D or 3D Animation images above.
In my spare time, I enjoy taking photos of things that inspire me. The images above are some of my favorites from a few shooting projects I've done in the past. Admittedly, I haven't had too much free time recently to go out and take pictures purely for the sake of doing so, but I really hope to get back into it when I'm done with all of my classes. Although I'm not the biggest photography buff out there, I definitely think I can hold my own. Check out some of my works by clicking on the thumbnails above.
I was born in Toronto, Canada and have always remarked on just how awesome of a place it is (my closest friends can groaningly attest to this). I moved to the States when I was about 5 years old and my family eventually wound up in the nice little suburb of Henrietta, New York. I attended the Rush-Henrietta Central School District and received my NYS Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation in June of 2007. During this time, I had become intrigued with all the technological advances in our everyday lives, especially those dealing with computers and the web. I quickly discovered that this was something I really wanted to pursue as a career.
In the fall of 2007, I was accepted into RIT's New Media Interactive Development Program as an Honors student. Since then I've taken a rigorous load of courses in design and development for various platforms, as well as completing a minor in Psychology- all while holding down a nice little 3.96 GPA. With such a fast paced quarter system at RIT (now slated to become semesters), I was more often than not cramming in an exorbiant amount of work that usually resulted in me cursing obscenities when my code would not compile or run correctly. But fast forward just 3 years later and here I am today, baffled to have already taken part in another graduation ceremony.
I recently accepted a position at GEICO headquarters in Chevy Chase, Maryland as a programmer analyst and web developer. Making the move from New York to Maryland was a big one, but I think the payoff of nicer weather and the beginning of a new career will be well worth it. Here's to the start of me being in the real world!
What is SociaLaser?
"SociaLaser is an immersive environment that synchronizes laser light mechanics with physical user input through a multi-touch display and laser light projector." To put it in simpler terms, it was my senior capstone New Media team project for RIT. The SociaLaser team consisted of 3 designers (Jason Caryl, Trevor Crandall, & Nick Tassone), a hardware specialist (Kevin Whitfield), and 2 developers (Anna Steglinski and myself). The project was aimed at having users interact with a touch screen while a laser projector simultaneously responded to their motions overhead. Several effects were available to the user, allowing them to produce complex animations. SociaLaser was implemented on May 1st at Imagine RIT to an audience of hundreds. Check out some of the videos and process work of the project.
